Musical concepts for 3rd grade

La pentatonic	The second pentatonic set — a different modal colour from Do pentatonic. 3rd graders experience the contrast viscerally before they analyze it theoretically.
Compound meter	6/8 and compound feel introduced through movement and song. Students feel the lilt of compound meter before they count it.
Syncopa	The syncopated rhythm pattern — felt through body percussion and circle games before it appears in notation.
Folk dance	3rd graders are ready for longways set dances and more complex circle dances. The physical experience of form and phrase through dance is the primary vehicle.
